Chiropody and Podiatry
If you consider the demands we place on our feet, it is not surprising that foot problems are a common source of pain. A chiropodist can assess the overall condition of the feet. Conservative treatment can be effective with not just foot pain but often with back or neck pain because of the effect of gait on the spine.
David can treat foot problems such as thickened nails, ingrowing toenails, callus (hard skin) corns.
Some foot problems require diagnosis, and then some advice about self management, such as athlete’s foot or verrucae.
Foot problems are encountered by the majority of people at some time in their lives. Treatments are formulated for foot problems based upon the patients’ lifestyles, and it is vitally important that achieving good foot health is a partnership between the podiatrist and the patient. With this in mind, time is spent working out why the foot problem has occurred, and dealing with this formulates a large part of the treatment plan.
David has many years of experience prescribing custom made insoles (orthotics), and some tailored specialised foot lift or support can help to deal with the causative factors of many of the problems that are treated. Some of these are heel pain (including plantar fasciitis), ball of foot pain (metatarsalgia), and flat foot problems. Some leg pains are due to the position of the foot, and shin pains and some kneecap area pains can be helped with supporting the foot.
