Your skin will start to age as early as 18yrs of age!!! The hormone responsible for this is oestrogen. Your oestrogen levels gradually drop as we get older; the first sign of this is the loss of firmness.
By the age of 25yrs your skin will start to show the first signs of ageing, the eye area will start to show fine lines. This can be caused by the environment accelerating the process (sun) or it can be dehydration lines. These can be easily treated, however if ignored these lines will become permanent and are known as crow's feet.
By the time we get to 30 we decide to look after our skin seriously, many people rush into anti ageing skin care. In fact a good skin care routine with lots of nourishment and protection is the best preventative at this stage. Between 40 - 50yrs your collagen and proteins diminish, these hold the surface layer of skin (epidermis) and the deeper skin layer (dermis) together. However as these layers drift apart you produce less collagen and elastin, which will result in a profound loss of elasticity.
From 50+ you will notice a dramatic change in your skin. It takes up to 15yrs for your skin to show the visible skins of environmental and lifestyle damage.
